Consumer Reports: Toyota is almost ready to issue for emergency trunk releases

Based on Consumer Reports, Toyota is scheduled to release a solution for trunk release pulls on several Lexus automobiles that might snap off in an urgent situation. Since you may recall, CR discovered the federally-mandated emergency releases could crack if pulled in the direction of the user. As it ended up, the trunk surround behaved like a fulcrum, adding more pressure against the middle of the release than toward the trunk mechanism itself. As the organization found the issue to exist on 2013 Lexus ES and GS, Toyota managed to reproduce the defect on the IS as well(Yuck!).

Toyota will notify 700,000 people who own 2007-2013 Lexus ES models, 2006-2012 IS automobiles and 2013 GS vehicles and switch the old ABS plastic release with a sturdier polypropylene part totally free when the components are offered to dealers. The service campaign is predicted to start in January.
